Solemn installation in Bozen, bountiful grape harvest, and arson in the surrounding area

Bozen, 13 Nov. Yesterday, the solemn installation of a newly mitred provost took place here in the person of the Reverend Aloys dal Piaz, former pastor in Kaltern. Following a sermon suited to the occasion, the solemn ceremony was performed by the Reverend Vicar General of the Diocese of Trent, Karl Sardagna von Hohenstein, in the presence of the District Captain, Knight von Hauer, and several authorities. The influx of people was extraordinary, and the detachment of the Imperial Royal Kaiserjäger Regiment dispatched from Trent for this purpose maintained the utmost order. Everything combined to make this act moving and unforgettable for the local residents. – The grape harvest this year was so abundant that there was genuinely a shortage of barrels here and there. Some who had hoped for 80 or 90 Yhren produced 120 to 130; it is only a pity that the quality of the wine suffered somewhat due to the unfavorable weather that set in during autumn, which is why good produce will always command a high price, whereas ordinary wines will be available for 5 to 6 florins per Yhre. – For some time now, arsonists have been causing havoc in this area, without the police having yet succeeded in apprehending them. Fires broke out in the village of Lana on three consecutive Sundays, and last Sunday even in St. Peter, a quarter of an hour from this town; likewise in the village of Terlan; in all these places, barns and stables burned down. It is strange that this always happens on Sundays, which is why the inhabitants of the threatened areas look forward to these days with anxious concern. May the perpetrators soon be tracked down!
