Thunderstorm and lightning strike in Bozen

Tyrol.

Botzen, June 18. On the 12th inst. in the evening, there was once again a heavy thunderstorm here, which, although doing no general damage, broke out vehemently. Lightning struck in several places, notably in the Fleischgasse in the house of the Engel butcher, where it entered the room of Dr. Eichholzer, smashed a chest there, melted several Louis d'or contained inside it, burned the quill with which the doctor was writing, and injured part of his wig and his right ear; whereupon it made its exit through the windows, which were entirely melted, passed through the courtyard into the garden, and from there into the adjoining stable, where it finally ended. All this happened in the span of 2 seconds. Meanwhile, Dr. Eichholzer escaped with a mere fright, as, apart from a severe burn mark on his face, he is fairly well recovered.
